Terms of use
The simple rules for using Pio. By using the app, you agree to them.

Using Pio
Pio is a free app for identifying birds by their song. You can use it for personal, non-commercial purposes. Please don't try to misuse, copy, reverse engineer or overload the app or its servers.
Identifications are a best guess
Pio uses machine learning to suggest which species you heard, with a confidence score. Results can be wrong, so please don't rely on them for scientific, safety or legal decisions.
Respect the birds
Enjoy birds from a distance. Don't disturb nests or wildlife, don't use playback to stress birds, and follow local laws and access rules when you are outside.
Your recordings
You keep the rights to what you record. You let Pio process your clips so it can identify the bird, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Content from others
Bird pictures and descriptions come from Wikipedia, and some links go to eBird. That content belongs to its authors and is shown under their own licences.
Support
Pio is free. If you want to help keep it going, you can buy me a coffee. Support is voluntary and doesn't unlock anything extra.
No warranty
Pio is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it running well, but we can't promise it will always be available or error free. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses from using the app.
Changes
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top. Questions? Contact us.
